FAQs
How do I get the most out of the coffee with the brewing method I’m using?
We don’t have a specific recipe for each coffee we offer, but we do have a brew guide on our website which can provide you with a solid starting point for your coffee brewing journey.
What kind of water do you recommend?
Preferably water with 80-100ppm. Generally we prefer our coffee with a tds (refractive index) of 1.4-1.5. But feel free to adjust accordingly if you prefer higher or lower strength.
If you’d like to make your own water for the brewing we recommend you follow the Barista Hustle guidelines on making a buffer and Magnesium /Potassium (if you prefer) solutions.
We find that a ratio of 50g buffer 50g Mag/Pot solutions and 900g distilled water is best with our coffee.
How long should the coffee rest before it’s ready for use?
We prefer our coffees to be rested 2 to 3 weeks, but our experience shows that the coffee is already very enjoyable to drink the day after roasting. Ultimately, taste is subjective and heavily influenced by personal preference.
A coffee is out of stock, will it restock?
Some coffees that we don’t have in stock may not be restocked. It largely depends on whether some of the coffees will be repurchased. We need to taste all the new samples from the most recent harvests to assess their quality and determine if they fit into our portfolio.
Can I place an order and then pick it up in person?
You can pick up your order at our roastery three business days after it’s placed. (Available in the Netherlands only.)
FAQ on Fermentation project
I bought a tasting kit, but it is still not shipped. What should I do?
As a part of educational reasoning for this project there will be a live streaming event hosted by James Hoffmann. To make sure all participants have their kits at the same time with the same freshness, all coffee for this project will be roasted the same day (15-17 September 2026) and shipped shortly after. Depending on your location, shipping might take 5-10 days. The live event will take place on 3 October, so you should get your coffee right on time before the live event.
I want to buy multiple kits to share with my friends. What should I do?
We want this project to be accessible to as many people as possible. That is why we are limiting these kits as 1 per order. If you need more kits, please place multiple orders.
I want to add some coffees to get alongside with my tasting kit, but i cannot add those to cart, why?
We are rotating our coffees quite frequently, so we are not able to guarantee that the coffee you see on our website now will be still available when tasting kits will be ready to ship. However, you will receive an email, approximately a week before tasting kits will be shipped with a special promo code, that will allow you to place an additional order, and get it shipped to you together with your tasting kit, without paying extra for the delivery.
I own a cafe and I want to host offline events for my guests. Can I get a tasting kit?
Yes tasting kits are available for both wholesale and retail clients. The wholesale price for the tasting kit is the same as retail. Limitation of 1 kit per order stays the same for wholesale clients. The livestream event will happen on 3 October 2026 at 15:00 London time.
I have a promo code (and/or gift card) . Can I get a discount for a tasting kit?
This depends on your promocode, some of now active promo codes will not give you discounts for this product. If you bought (or received) a gift card with an amount of money on it – it will work as usual.
I want to buy a kit, but it is sold out, will it be restocked?
There is a limited amount of coffee available for this project. It is likely that some amount of kits will be added once we roast the coffee (now we are playing safe and left ourselves a little margin for some production losses). But it is likely that once sold out it will not be restocked anymore.
I want to have multiple roasteries kits, is it possible?
Sure! There are 70+ roasteries around the globe that are participating in the project. It will be even more fun if you can have coffee from different roasteries tasted side by side by side. Each roastery manages orders on their own, so orders should be done separately.
I received my kit, how should I taste it right?
This tasting event is designed around cupping experience, make sure you visit James Hoffmann YouTube for guidelines. You are also not limited to cup it you can brew these coffees using your favorite brewer.
