Our Story
Hertson Bernal has owned Finca La Esperanza since 2006. His journey into coffee began alongside his brother JesĂşs, with whom he managed a coffee farm for several years before starting their own project.
Before purchasing the farm, the brothers worked hard growing both coffee and lulo, saving enough money from a successful harvest to invest in their future. When they first discovered La Esperanza, they immediately recognized its potential despite its poor condition. The farm had been abandoned for years, with old Arabica trees, a deteriorating house, and damaged processing infrastructure.
Over time, Hertson and his family transformed the farm. They renovated the coffee plantations, planting Caturra, Castillo, Colombia, and Cenicafé varieties, built a new beneficio, and constructed homes for both their family and farm workers.
A turning point came after Hertson attended a coffee fair and later won a trip to Colombia’s coffee region. That experience sparked his passion for specialty coffee, inspiring him to continue improving quality and participating in competitions.
Today, La Esperanza is a thriving family farm where Hertson, his brother, and their families work together to produce exceptional coffees.
